New bike wont start
I just got the bike two days ago and the first thing i noticed was the pet was not connected to the carb! They had to vent hoses hooked up, so i had to take one out and hook up the one from the carb to the pet. Now the bike wont start. It spits a little, but wont fire!! Any body have any suggestions? I just wanna ride!!!!
Thanks |

step1, pull the spark plug, see if its wet? see if it has spark. check the plug gap? if wet? dos it spark. if yes its geting to much gas. No spark check kill switch. If plug is dry? No gas, check fuel line and pet coak.

This might be a no brainer, but check the fuel line. Mine wasn't even hooked up at the t-valve.

I just put my bike together last night & the fuel line was too long & had a bad kink in it, shutting off the fuel completely. After shortening the line the bike fired right up.

200 enduro from jet moto
Thanks for all the info.... The fuel line was way too long and i had to cut it. I am getting gas to the carb so i know its not a fuel problem. I ended up killing the battery trying to start it last night. I will check the plug today and see if its fouled. The choke doesnt want to stay engaged either..I have to hold it up with one hand and then try to start....Any body else with that problem...
Thank you |

hi.....on your choke,....you can try snugging down the rubber boot covered/plastic nut that is just below your choke knob........
it is actually a friction adjustment....the more you screw it down, the more drag it will put on your choke cable,..........

I don´t know wich bike you have, but my bike must have the side stand up before you can start. Check the kill switch too.

If it's getting gas, got fire, got compression, but won't hit, shoot some carb cleaner or starting fluid into the back of the carb with the slide open and see if it'll fire on that. If not, something is really wrong. If it fires and won't stay running, you have plugged jets or water in the gas or not getting fuel or some sort of fuel feed problem.

For clarity sake... let us know what kind of bike you have..
Yes you have to be vigilant on the choke.. alot of them like to back off. Hook a battery charger up to the battery while you are trying to start it for the first time. That way juice wont be a problem.. just dont lay on the starter for more than 5 sec.s at a time. Back off the throttle once in a while so you dont flood it. Play with the choke a little to see if you get a few more pops in different positions. Once you get it fired up.. keep it going with the throttle.. and back off the choke when it gets warmed up, (best way to get it to temp it to take it for a short ride) Once you got it started once you may have to adjust the idle/ air screw. Its the one that is tough to get at on your carb, if you do a search on this site for idle/air mixture you should find the threads. There is also the possiblity that to get it started you may have to back out the idle/air mixture screw a little to get it started. Good Luck NET NET |

yea, been there with the kill switch too, i never hardly ever turned the switch to the kill position, but i did one time by accident, and i couldnt figure out why the bike wouldnt run.. haha..
eventually i just figured it out.. sometimes we all do stupid things..

Its running!!!
Thanks for all the input! I finally got the bike fired up and it runs great... I changed the stock plug to an NGK as well... The bike seems to fire better when the choke is off, which is a little odd to me. I had to kick start it because i killed the battery... Thanks again for all your replys...
