Budget 450mt?
What is the most similar affordable chinabike to the 450mt (yes I realize the 450mt is also a china bike to begin with.) Touring focused, 300-500cc, potentially even a twin.
A lot of my riding lately has been touring focused and I want to know if there's any affordable options I might consider trading to, that would come out even cheaper than the 450mt. Bonus points if the bike you suggest can still do some manner of offroad.

Yeah. Sadly the 450NK was sold for $4.880,which is an awesome price, but with dealer fees, setup fees, transport fees, were looking at $7k+.
For that price I'm better off with a second hand Honda Rebel 500. |

Just to steer this thread into more of what I was thinking, I'm asking if there's any similar bikes to the Benelli TRK502, the RX3 or RX4, or the up and coming Lifan KPT400? What current chinese touring bikes are available under the 450mt's price?

I don't think there is anything bigger than a 297cc dirt bike like the TM 38 (Trailmaster). But it's $4k
So as I said the 450mt actually is at the low end of pricing for anything that you can claim that you can tour on it.

The Himmy 411 and 452 are cheaper than the 450MT.
or a used CB500X/KLR650/versys300... You won't get that 270* crank twin engine though... |

To be fair, the question is "What current chinese touring bikes are available under the 450mt's price?"

Like, what Grom clones are cheaper than the Vader 125? There aren't any. The cheapest thing that comes close to it while being cheaper than a 450mt, is a hawk 250, templar, or a Lifan KPX or Xpect. Not an adventure, but in some ways it's very similar. My point being, dealers are taking 33% of profit on top of these bikes, which makes CFMoto not a good investment. If they want to succeed, they'll also have to sell the bikes like powersports do, in a crate, to be mounted by the end user. I could save myself $2k easily that way. |

Actually, my point was that RE is made in India, not China. That was a quote from OP in post #8

People are buying the MT450 its selling out and on waiting lists...
Yes you have to go through a dealer and they need to pay staff and cover costs. But you typically get longer warranty periods, Perhaps on road services, Road registration covered, a Possible test ride and the ability to ride the bike out the door... 33% might be a harley thing. I don't thing CFmoto is making high margins and dealers can't skim much off the top. Most of their takings come from financing. As for bikes being an investment. No china bike will have resale value. So the investment is in terms of rider enjoyment per $ long term. Is the CFmoto 450MT worth 2.5 KPX250s...I would say yes. but that is a personal preference. In Australia there are no crate 250 street legal motorbikes... I suppose If have to buy a bike in China then maybe asking specifically for a china only bike makes sense. But if want to save some money in that displacement bracket Indian offerings are a valid alternative at a lower cost. Didn't you make a post Prodigit on how you want to sell a small single cylinder bike for a CFMoto NK450? Then suggested to me a yamaha MT07 as a better alternative to a 450MT even though it cost a 1/3 more and is not even an ADV... I can tolerate a moron but I can't stand blatant hypocrites who believe their own BS. |

ProD just posted about his new 450mt. It does sound like a nice bike. Selling the Xpect will help defray the cost of admission. For what you are getting with the CFmoto 450mt, the price is highly competitive. It is a road bike, really, but that's OK. Adventure sport is a fascinating class. But realistically, something like the KTM Adv 390 is about as heavy as you can go and still have any chance of getting off the pavement. I guess if you are under 40 years old, a little more weight would be acceptable

CFmoto 450mt (385 lbs, unavailable locally) is called an adventure bike. But it weighs ~40 pounds more than the KTM 390 (~349lbs $6650 locally). The CFmoto will cost you less than the KTM, if you can find one! But those extra 40lbs are not insignificant. These are heavy bikes compared to dual sports. But you need that extra weight for better roadworthiness. If you don't really need to be off the pavement, then the CFmoto 450nk that ProD got is hard to beat.

The duke 390 is closer to a 450nk, which is a lot cheaper. 450MT is an adventure (MounTain?), the 450NK is a naked bike. The 450ss is the sports version (I wouldn't call it a SuperSports), and is in between the two in terms of weight I sat on both KTM Duke 390, and CFMoto 450NK. Both are cramped for tall riders, but the KTM 390 doesn't have a nice screen, and feels more cramped, costs and weighs more too, plus, the CFMoto 450 has a very nice counterbalanced engine that vibrates less than the KTM's. CFMoto is the only player with a 450 adventure bike. The next step up is a Honda CB500X, or the newer NX500 (which does have a color TFT screen). Then you're up tenere 700 territory, and then the ibex 800 bike. I have sat on the CFMoto 800NK, which felt significantly heavier than the 700clx. That 700 is heavier on paper than the 450, but most of its weight is down low and in the wheels. The 700 was only slightly harder to pick up from the floor (like when dropped) than the 450nk. The 450MT will feel heavier than the 800nk, mostly because it's center of gravity is much higher. The 450NK feels easier to pick up than my CBR300R. The 700 CL-X feels about the same. |

The 411 as a great suggestion, it just seems to be holding value strangely well . . . to it's own detriment in my biased opinion. I really don't think the himmy with 5-10K miles and 5 years old should only be 1K less than new but I digress. Holding its value better than a honda at this point. Any other kind of underdog tourers I should know of? Bikes that would travel well and are a real good deal?
