The only way a starter could spin but not engage is if the transfer ratio gear is missing or damaged. a 163FML should be CG200 clone.


Between the starter and the flywheel cover there should be a smaller cover that houses the starter transfer gear.


without it the starter cannot engage with the sprag clutch gear on the flywheel.

I knew that...no, I had no clue. My understanding of things is rudimentary at best.

There seems to be a common issue with used Australian CG engines from unknown origins that have missing starter transfer gears and or a broken flywheel sprag clutch.


I know what it is because I had to fix my CG250 in much the less same way.

If I may ask, what is a CG 250 and thanks for the heads up. I replied to bigdano about my plans which will cover both of your helpful suggestions.
