Need help tuning up moped scooter

I have a X-PRO Fiji 200 EFI Electronic Fuel Injection Scooter with 3k miles on it now. I have kept up on changing the oil every 300-500 miles, keep air cleaner cleaned, only use good mid grade gas (89). But lately it has started to run rough.


When I start it, it needs a few mins to warm up or it will stall when coming to a stop. when I let it idle I can smell a strong exhaust smell, like carbon, which I never smelt before\When it does stall it is hard to get started again, I have to hit the starter button and then give it a little gas to get going, only for it to stall again.


I noticed when I hit the kill switch and wait a few seconds, it will start like it should, but will still stall from time to time. I don't know if it needs a tune up, which I have no idea how to do, or maybe the computer is faulty or maybe a sensor?

If anyone has an idea what it might be or where I should look, before I start replacing parts.
Any help would be great thanks!

No check engine light? I'd check the spark plug for color and the plug cap to see that it's screwed on to the wire properly. I'd also check all the connectors for good contact on the pins, and check that the engine temperature sensor wire is in good shape.

No check engine light, I did replace the spark plug when this started, I thought that might have been it.


"check that the engine temperature sensor wire is in good shape"
where might I find that. I'm old school, not sure on these electroic stuff on bikes and cars.


Also do you know of somewhere I might be able to find more info, on how to service or tune this bike. It's so hard to find parts. I was able to find a muffler exhaust gasket on ebay so I know the type of engine it is, but beyond that I don't have a clue.

This is intermittent, I don't think it is my value clearance, why I thought it was a sensor or the computer, because resetting with the kill engine switch, seems to fix it, sometimes.

Adjusting the valves is an important part of a tuneup. Do it, if only to eliminate that as the problem. On these Chines bikes, valves are often out of spec right from the box, and should be checked immediately.

Not familiar with this scooter at all but on one EFI bike I owned a bad temperature sensor caused similar symptoms. The ECU received a low temp reading which made it run rich and was a intermittent problem.
Similar to your scooter, when I used the kill switch to cut it off it started back fine (due to it operating correctly at the time). When it stalled, it was hard to start back up (stalled due to rich mixture). Kind of like killing a standard carb bike with the choke, it's going to be hard to start back up.

I just need to figure out how, as I can't find a service manual and I'm an IT not a mechanic. I did search and I checked my manual that came with it and it shows to adjust values at intervals which I am over due.

This is EXACTLY what I am experiencing, the smell when I start it in the morning is because it is running rich I am sure. I don't know where that sensor is, as I can't find a service manual on it.


I will contact a service center that works on bikes. It's all I can do as I don't think I could adjust valves or find this sensor. There is a sensor in my exhaust pipe that has what looks like a bad wire, but it is attached to the sensor correctly, I wonder if that is the engine heat sensor?

The sensor in the exhaust is probably an O2 sensor. The engine temp sensor, if it's an air cooled engine, is probably around the cylinder head somewhere; usually near the intake port.

It appears that the one thing you are not doing is getting on Youtube and learning to do the simple maintenance these scooters absolutely require. Pull up a video and adjust your valves. Valves expand and contract while operating, that is why they need good clearance adjustment.

Second thing is to check your fuel pump. You have a cheap chinese fuel pump that is probably giving you erratic or low fuel pressure and causing the "erratic" behavior. If there is any problem with bad fuel or dirty injector the fuel pump has to make enough pressure to blow the gas past the obstruction. That is why EFI can not be a simple gravity feed.

You might also want to shine a flashlight into that tank and see if there is any water in your tank. It does not have to come with the gas quality, it sometimes happens due to overnight condensation.

Yes, definitely adjust the valves. Watch a YouTube video on GY6 150 valve adjustment, your engine will be the same except for the number of bolts holding on the valve cover. The temperature sensor is a small brass cylinder that screws into the head just below the right side of the valve cover. It has 2 wires going to it and a white heat sheath over the wire to protect it. It plugs into the wiring harness . Yours won't have the plastic piece and zip tie over the wire, it was part of my experiment adding a resistor to the circuit.

I found a guy that walks you through it on youtubw. As the other said I did not look on youtube as I didn't know what engine I have. I am going to order the parts and the service manual found on Amazon. I will include link here for others, as when I was searching, I saw MANY people looking for a service manual.

How would I fix this problem? If I have a dirty injector how can I fix, clean resolve that problem, with fuel injector cleaner, would that be safe?

So you can go to you tube and find out how to adjust your valves, but you can't go to you tube and type in "How to clean GY6 fuel injector?"
