My ATV makes 1 very quiet click when I turn the key

I just got an ATV. It didn't come with the battery, the guy told me he used a 12V 5a battery. I got a new 12V 9a battery and installed it, turned the key... and it made 1 extremely quiet click. Turned the key again, same thing.

What is the problem? The guy I bought it from told me it ran when he had the battery in, so assuming he's telling the truth, could it be because the battery is 9a instead of 5a?

I checked the fuse and it looks fine.

Thanks!

Cool!

"an ATV"

uh that narrows it down. Sounds used. Model? Maker? Didn't have a battery? Gee. A little more details could be useful

Maybe a photo?

So, it makes a very quiet click but doesn't turn the engine over at all?

I don't know anything about it, except for that it was rebuilt with a 197cc Lifan engine.

Assuming that the battery is 100% fully charged, and the key in the ON position, you should be able to "jump" the starter solenoid terminals with a screwdriver to see if the engine will turn over. If it does turn over, I'd say the solenoid is bad.
