WTB: 6 speed counter balanced 250 motor
My DF250 RTS engine runs great after 2,300 miles, but the vibration level and lack of a 6th gear mean a lot shaking to get a decent cruise speed, so I've been considering an engine swap to the newer version of the Zongshen engine with a 6th gear and a counter balancer. So far I've been unable to find this motor online, not sure why.
The RTS DF250 frame and front engine mount seem to be made to accept the bulge for the counter balancer, so a swap should be easy, can anyone help me locate an engine source or give any other inputs? Thanks, Phil |

It may be that the motor is so new that all the production is going into motorcycle builds, and they don't have just the motors for sale yet.

a loncin RE250 is a counterbalanced 6 speed (aircooled). can be purchased direct from alibaba. the shipping will sting though.
https://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...7708aadaj6utsa It wont get you any faster than a CG/CB250 as there just isn't enough power to push 6th so all the extra gear does is drop cruising rpm or allow you to sprocket ratio 1st down lower... 6th speed makes more sense 20hp+ The PR250 ZS172FMM is the better engine but im not sure if there is a counterbalanced 6 speed... seems to be either a counterbalanced 5 speed or a non balanced 6speed... I can't be sure. https://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...67294f9dOZphND links are just for information purposes...purchase at you're own risk. Last edited by XLsior; 06-15-2023 at 07:09 PM. |

Something to keep in mind with the 172 is the head is bigger/wider than the typical 166fmm and 167fml..
So depending on frame and tank clearances there might be some upper clearance issues... |

thanks everyone for the help, feel dumb for not checking EBAY first, now have one on the way. I know the top end won't budge, but having lower Rs at right around 60 mph is a big deal on a bike like that, combined with the counter balancer it should be worth the $570-I'll let you know how it goes.

Didja get it yet? Likely can recoup some of the purchase price by putting the older for sale.
