Bottom oil drain plug torque setting.
The RPS Hawk 250 manual says to change the engine oil using the side drain plug and torque it to 18ft/lbs. To avoid the mess, I use the bottom plug for most oil changes. What’s the torque setting for the bottom plug? Is it 18 also?
Thanks a lot!! |

I was also curious why they recommend using only using the side drain plug, must be because of the location of the filter screen. I just added an oil cooler that uses the side port so I'll be draining oil using the bottom plug. 18ft/lbs sounds about right, a general rule, plugs with a rubber o-rings don't need to be "reefed" on (as my old mechanic friends would say!).

Few blocks from my flat, i have a guy that has a workshop. You wouldn't belive all the CG he has to repair due damaged threads on the lower drain plug. If you damage those threads, you have to split open the case to fix it. ideally you should unplug both the side drain and the lower one. That way you can clean the filter and remove most if not all of the old oil. |
