I picked up a TaoTao for my daughter and it was geared too high for our hills. I put the 10T on the front and it completely solved the problem. Unlike your niece my girl loves to go fast...a little too much....so this gearing is perfect. |

I just saw that you believe it's a 420 chain. FYI, mine was a 428. I got this:

EDIT: upon further inspection the poorly stamped 13 tooth sprocket did infact say 428 AND I was wrong about the pitch being the same. There's no fool like an old fool.

I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE SPROCKET! The 420 has a different (smaller) pitch and would not work with my 428 chain.
Got a few things done on the Moto Pro (junk) 125 yesterday. Rebuilt the clutch pack with EBC Heavy Duty friction plates. Lifted the front 1" with TRX250R gas reservoir shocks. And widened the rear end 4" with Freedom Country billet aluminum wheel spacers. Ordered the wrong sprocket for it but the right one is on the way. And adjusted the front brakes (still suck). Removed the idle adjustment plug as well. Did all that and the battery crapped out and wouldn't take a charge. Out of the 6 China bikes I've bought this is the first LEMON, but I'll work all the bugs out and sell it come spring time. 🤕

After waiting months for it to arrive we put it together and tried to take it on some mild trails with my niece riding it and me following on big Hoss. The thing wouldn't stay running and they put an epoxy plug over the idle adjustment screw (wtf?), and the the clutch slipped so badly that it literally got stuck on a pine cone. Everywhere we went my niece had to get off and push the thing while giving it gas, and had to push it back up the driveway.
The steel clutch plates were glazed so I cleaned them up with a sand wheel at low rpm, and the EBC friction plates are 0.15mm thicker than stock and have metal embedded in the friction material. Haven't got to test the clutch out yet but all the reviews were 5 star and say it really grips with no slip. After watching alot of YouTube videos I've learned the factory clutch and battery are just junk and they have some CDI issues as well. Come next spring I'm gonna buy her a used Honda Recon, but in the meantime she can get some experience riding this thing.

Hello ,
I just replaced a clutch on a taotao 250 and after it was a back together I had no tension on the cable lever. Took it apart to make sure the pin was lined up but back together I still have no tension on the cable adjusted the cable with no success. Can anyone give me some suggestions. Do I need to replace the clutch cable? Baffled in Boston, Thank you, Johnny G. |

The saga of suck continues
I'm so mad I could spit. We got the 10 tooth sprocket on yesterday and got the valves adjusted which was extremely difficult. The exhaust side is almost impossible to get to because of the frame layout, and the caps are so small you cant get an accurate reading with a feeler gauge so I just adjusted them by feel, which has to be better than being screwed down tight.
Because of all the bad battery reviews I ordered an expensive Yuasa assuming that was the problem, Nope.. The bike barely turned over once and both cables got very hot quickly. I ran out of daylight before I could do any testing and was worried about the safety of the bike when I realized I had a baseball bat in my hand. The engine turns over fine with turning the rear wheels while in gear so I figure it's a resistance issue with the solenoid or a bad starter. I might just order them both and put heavier battery "cables" on it (the stock wires are a joke). This thing has been nothing but a POS from day one.
