Buying a used Rx3
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on things to look for in a used Rx3. Thanks |

Mainly just low miles, for as low of a price as you can get it.
Mechanically, I would be looking to see if the OEM battery and chain have been replaced. They're crap from the factory, basically; an aftermarket gel cell battery and a quality 520 O-ring chain (EK, RK, D.I.D.) already installed would be good to see. Apart from that, try to get one with upgraded luggage, a center stand, 19" front wheel (if it is a 2015-2017; 2018 onwards have it as standard equipment), and the CSC skid plate. Heated grips, speedo healer, RAM mounts, etc would all be a bonus. |

Don't forget that EVAN is in Peru. They import a different version of the RX3 from what is shipped to CSC in the US.
EVAN, when looking at a used RX3 it's much like any other used vehicle. Look for unusual wear. Check the oil to see if it is fresh. If the oil looks like thick ink I'd question when it has been changed. Any crash damage? Minor stuff like scuffed levers is no problem but a bent wheel or front forks....stay away. The NC250 engine is pretty tough, if maintained. Peter Y. |

The only real weakness and things I've had to tend to on mine is ancillary stuff like the turn signal switch. If the bike is outdoors a lot (mine was), it gets hard to use. But the main parts of the bike are solid, and things like the switch are cheap.

What do you think of one that was well maintained but has 15k miles? (AKA the only one for sale here that I can find)

I wouldn't worry about it, I'd just buy it.

15K miles is not a big deal. Look for unusual wear but otherwise the bike should be OK. At least the seller has suffered the depreciation so you won't have as much invested. Thus you can afford to make the bike exactly what you want without investing so much in the total package.

With 15K miles on the odometer, I wouldn't be concerned so long as the engine starts up cold without issue and idles smoothly. If so, then it is a strong buy, IMO, as long as the price is right. It might need a new chain; check the adjusters to see how much adjustment range is left. Also check the brake pads, new sets for the front and rear may be in order with that mileage. Ask if the brake fluid has been changed lately, as well.
