Exclamation Forum usage guidelines

Forum usage guidelines

This was originally posted by Frostbite. I think this will be the proper place to post this for new members to read.
If you have any questions about our policies please let me know. We aim for a 'G' rating for forum content so please refrain from anything you wouldn't want your kids/grandma/pastor to read.

Sexually explicit/rude forum handles

When you pick a forum user name use some common sense. Nothing sexually explicit or rude. For example:

Good: John1973
Bad: HugeTrouserSalami69

You get the idea.

Language

No foul language please. This is intended as a family-friendly site so keep things pleasant. If you wouldn't say it in front of your granny don't say it here.

Avatars and Signatures

No objectionable avatars please. These include, but are not limited to, those depicting:

- Nudity
- Foul language
- Sexual acts of any kind (yes, that includes ascii porn)

Remote avatars are currently enabled. This will remain so until/unless it gets abused. So please, if you are linking to an avatar off-site ensure it is of a reasonable size. Nothing larger than 100x100 pixels please.

Also, ensure any images in your signature are no larger than 200x75

Personal Attacks on Members

Personal attacks towards any forum member will not be tolerated. If you have an issue with a comment, you can either send the member a Private Message or notify a moderator. No need to get into a shouting match on the forum. If any personal attacks are made towards a member, immediate action will be taken to remove them.

Keeping Topics on Track

When someone creates a post, please try and keep the topic on track. Do not go posting stuff that has nothing to do with the actual topic of discussion. If you have some information you want to post, make a new thread for this new topic. Let's have 1 discussion per thread.

Derogatory comments against Chinese bikes

Please reframe from any political and religious comments or topics. Too much controversy. There are other forums just for that. This is not one of them.

One of the reasons behind this site was to create a friendly forum for China bike riders to discuss their machines. Too many other forums descended into name calling between Chinese motorcycle owners and their detractors. If you don't like Chinese motorcycles for whatever reason (perceived quality issues, owners are commies, blah blah blah...) that's your perogative. If your sole purpose her is to remind members how superior your (Honda, Husky, KTM, etc...) is and how crappy our rides are then please move on. I'm sure thumpertalk.com would love to have you.

Avoid vague thread titles

When creating a new thread use an appropriately descriptive title. For example:

Good: How do you adjust the clutch cable on a 2005 LF200GY-2?
Good: Carburetor tuning instructions for LF200GY-5

Bad: clutch problems
Bad: bike won't start

Grammar and Spelling

All are not equipped with the same language skills, especially when conveyed via the written word. If possible please follow as many of the following guidelines as possible:

- Sentences start with a capital letter (e.g. 'C', not 'c').
- Sentences end with a punctuation mark (e.g. ?!.).
- When used wisely the comma (,) is your friend!
- Please refrain from posting in all upper case (e.g. THIS IS REALLY ANNOYING DON'T YOU THINK.) unless the intention of your post is to convey yelling.
- Check your spelling.

Do not make duplicate posts

Avoid posting the same message in multiple forums. This is annoying. If you have a message that warrants wider exposure send me a PM.

Before posting....

If you're new to the forum and have a question please do the following before posting. Your questions may have already been answered:

1) Read the FAQ's
2) Review the Tech Info section
3) Perform some simple text searches on the forum

If none of the above solves your problem then by all means post away.

A warning is generally issued before a ban is enforced. It typically depends on the severity of the offense. Repeat offenders will be permanently banned.
