Clutch cover

Had to replace the gear shifter shaft on my 2019 Tao Tao 250. Now I can not seem to get the clutch cover back on and have the gears shift. One time I was able to shift into gears 1 through 3, now I can only gate first and neutral. Is there a secret to synchronizing the cover?
Any advise would be appreciated.

maybe gear rod in clutch cover rolled around? take of clutch cable wriggle it around?

Did you pull off the clutch and basket etc? firstly you would need to have pulled the centrifugal oil filter part to pull the clutch etc?

Is the gear shifter deep enough in? not sticking out catching on the cover?
