Ordered "MIKUNI" VM26 Off of amazon? PICS
So my TBR7 will be here in a few days. It is definitely different than the clones I have seen. With no markings or stamps on it like the clones I have seen. It came with a 100 main and 42 pilot. A few questions, has anyone else ordered this carb? Does it look like a Mikuni vm26? I ordered a set of main jets for it and planned on using a 110 main or 115 main since I am only 118 feet above sea level. Now I know that a 42 pilot is way rich but I am wondering if it will work for the time being? Probably not right? On to the pics: |

Works OK, but pain in the ass to tune
I hope it works out for you, but this is what I have been trying to figure out a replacement for. Don't get me wrong it works OK. It is just a bit of a pain in the ass. I am changing to a VM26-606 with a spigot manifold adaptor. https://tboltusa.com/store/tbparts-m...606-p-742.html
1) You have to remove the carb to adjust the Pilot Fuel screw. So it is off and on and off and on until you get it right. 2) The jets were sort of hard to find...though I did. Even with a photo of the carb Jets R Us was reluctant to give me part #'s. He finally sent me measurements and part #'s and they are the correct ones. This confusuion is mainly because of Mikuni naming two different carbs the same thing "VM26". This one is a 26mm carb (though the tag on yours says 30mm). The VM26-606 is a 30mm carb of a completely different design. 3) The flange mount makes it a chore to remove. Spigot mount is much better. My old fingers don't take well to lining up the 8mm nuts onto the bolts in a tight space! I have gotten pretty good at it, but am used to the ease of a spigot mount. 4) You have to remove the bowl to get to the Main. An access on the bottom of the bowl is much easier. 5) The bowl gasket swells a lot. On mine it was next to impossible to get the gasket back in the groove. I managed to get it close by using a thin screwdriver to push it into place once I had it mostly tightened up. Still ended up with a very small leak. I have ordered 3 more....since the bowl has to come off every time you make a jet change. Figure on a new one every time. They cost $5-$6. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer. Good luck with it.

Tuning Manual
Here is a tuning manual that helped me out. It is not the Mikuni, but the 26mm one is identical. The only thing that didn't make sense was the measurement for the float. I just left mine along.

(EDIT: I just looked at my bike and this COULD work. Maybe enough clearance. It is cheap enough I am going to try it out) I tried the 90 degree screwdriver in the attached photo, and there is barely enough room to get it into place. Then I can't get it aligned with the screw and turn it at the same time.

PLEASE let me know if this is the tool you (nzbrakelathes) are referring to or if there is something better. I am open to something better, maybe the fixed set-up that just has a shorter shaft on it.

Thanks for the info. All this talk about a special tool. I'm pretty sure I could manage to make my own. We will see though. Lol Got my TBR7 today so I'm happy. I'll make a post as soon as I've got all my pics and start my carb work.
