Solenoid Chaos and a Bruised Leg
I had to replace my starter solenoid, so I ordered a Chinese one off EBay for $6.
It didn’t have a fuse like the one on the Hawk so I recycled the fuse assembly from he previous solenoid and wired in the new Chinese solenoid. It worked! Started fine 4 times, then nothing. I rechecked everything, all good. I can start it by jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver so I know it’s not the starter or the cutoff switch. When I press the ignition button I can hear the solenoid push the internal spring but nothing happens. So what killed the solenoid? Why did it work 4 times and then die? I don’t know much about solenoids, are they easy to kill somehow? I’m real tired of kickstarting, my foot slipped the last time I started it and I left a good amount of skin on the kickstart lever... |

Ha I agree, financial decisions are the root cause but what is the mechanical cause?

Sorry, I didn’t understand that last post. Some Chinese stuff is good, some bad is maybe what you’re driving at?

Looks like you can get em on amazon. better than waiting for shipping from where ever.
Even if it is not the same it looks like it might work. https://www.amazon.com/Starter-Solen...SIN=B007X6R9PI |

Make sure you aren't loosing voltage at the relay on the trigger side, not the starter side. Sounds like a heat issue from a bad connection. Possibly a grounding issue. |

I think the link and post is saying Plated Copper contacts bad, solid copper contacts good. Basically you get what you pay for... A buck fifty per start is kinda expensive... which reminds me another saying I heard: you can go broke trying to save money, or something like that.
