Looking for a headlight.
Yes I know this concerns my dirt bike but I figure one of ya'all might have an answer as well. I'm looking to add a headlight to my TSM 200 as I like to ride at night . I know that dual sport lighting kits exist for 350 to 500$, but that's a bit steep for me, and I have no use for the turn signals or hi/low beam. I'm just looking for a headlight housing and light to go with it. I can fab the rest as I'm an engineer by trade.

how were you planning to power it? I just use a 21 led bicycle style light clamped on my handlebars for when I venture out too far and it gets dark (or if I'm driving through a long train tunnel or something) -- ebay for $10 or so

As it is an electric start, It has a battery and charging system. A small headlight shouldn't be an issue (35watts max). Although a bicycle headlight isn't a bad idea.

Ahh, you spoiled electric start guys... you're right, it will have enough juice to power the light.

Stuck a Harbor Freight 55watt $10.99 special On the bike for the heck of it and the bike, even without the battery hooked up powers it with no difficulty. Must have a fairly decent stator. Nice and bright.

Very interesting. Many China Bikers have wondered if it was possible to move up from a 35w headlight to something more powerful without running into electrical problems.

I've only run it (the light) for a short period of time without the battery, just to make sure the stator could drive it without self destructing and that it was bright enough. I am planning on running it straight off of the battery so that the stator is charging the battery rather than running the light This configuration (in theory) should only result in a battery drain should the stator not be able to keep up. Then I can always kick start to get home...in a pinch.

Ok, is this a halogen bulb? I did find a BA20D type bulb with 45W http://www.mopedshop.com/Headlight-B...ash-40whal.htm

Also, Acerbis makes some headlight setups for the $100 range.

Yes, it´s a halogen bulb (just as the headline says)
There are also 45 watt bulbs with xenon gas, they don´t get as hot as halogen. I have changed to a "standard" type 45 watt Ba20d bulb. I really don´t think 55-60 watt would be a problem on the 200 cc either, my 50cc Lifan moped also has a 45 watt bulb (switched 2600 km:s ago) Some of the last rides this autumn I drove with low beam on, and manually holding the "pass" button the whole time. That way both high and low beam was on at the same time without problem (45+40 watts in the headlight).
