My new Magician ran for 15 minutes before BAM, the chain broke
My son and I just got home from the dealer, who is 3 hours away from us, and as my son was riding around the yard in 1st gear at a low speed. BAM, a loud noise and the chain broke, I noticed that it started leaking oil. I tried to pull the chain off of the front sprocket and even though the bike was in neutral the chain would not come out, as my son tried to start the bike it started spitting out oil, my dealer says it sounds like the chain may be stuck in the front sprocket and the oil is from the chain oiler. He wants to send me a new chain and have me try to install it. I think I'm going to bring it back to his store and let him deal with it, I'm afraid the engine is blown.
any ideas? |

Yep, chain bunched up in the front sprocket area and likely broke the engine case or the countershaft where the sprocket sits. The cracked case is far more likely. Take it back to the dealer. These bikes don't have chain oilers as standard

So sad, I think this is the second busted chain that tore up a case in the past month or two if I'm not mistaken.

My first TMEC seemed to have numerous chain incidents (due to what I believe was an aftermarket sprocket I had made) and the bike always spit them out without damaging the engine. So, yes, if it is stuck, and leaking oil, after a chain breaking, I would take it back.

first gear is very low it seems no matter wich bike you buy i would never ride in first gear ever on the 229cc ,also upgrade the chain, the ones that come with them are junk ,but like 25.00 dirt bike chain jt H is what i got 5500 lbs or rk ,the magician ,not sure wich but find out wich chain works for it ,replace before you even ride ,i just noted on my hawk it so low geared #2 gear would be better to start out in ,or shift from first to second real quick ,dont know of a chain oiler either ,so sounds like others said.
mabey its just me but i felt like i could have snapped the chain ,it was very tight no slack at all out of the crate from china if i did not put some slack in it.it would have snapped the first ride too 9/16th aprox slack,? is did you put some slack in the chain if not an it was as tight as mine ,thats what it will do it every time with the cheap chain they put on them ,even with a good chain need some slack, there are videos on you tube on how to adjust a chain proper, just mabey if they put it together they did not adjust it proper either for you so if they put it together ,then may be there fualt, i know with mine had i not adjusted it ,they would have said your fault ,who knows hopefuly they will replace it for you ,an if they do make sure the chain has 3/4ths to an inch of slack,an dont ride much in first gear ,i found with my hawk 5th gear feels like 3rd ,though i think the magcican has higher gears ,but still low

Kool....
great to here of people getting good service... it's the dealer putting it right.. is what really counts in the end... Who did you buy it from ?...don't be frightend to let people know who's worth dealing with... Anyone ealse buying from him should let him know it's because of the way he treated other buyers..... then they start to realise this good guy thing really works... ..

too much slack in the chain and it will pop off on the first bump. too tight of a chain and first bump will snap the chain. if its a heavy duty chain and too tight it will yank the gear box out of the engine.

Proper chain tension is very important. My Hawk came with the chain tight as well. I used a ratchet strap to compress the suspension and set the chain slack at that point. I think the best mod to a Hawk would be a spring loaded chain tensioner regardless of the size of chain used.

What would be better is if someone could talk the makers of spandex to making bike chains!
I was thinking it might be a good idea to change the sprockets on the magician and put a smaller front one on to give a little more room for stuff like this.

over on it's self.... what you need is a de-railer that is only mm from the chain so it guides the chain and drops it on the ground under the bike... ..
