Playing With My New Coffee Maker
Finally got around to messing with the Esbit Coffee Maker today. It uses solid fuel tablets and packs up really small.
![]() The first attempt was utterly lacking in success. I didn't use a wind break and wasted a couple of fuel tabs. So, I found a short piece of 4" stove pipe that I split and used for a wind break. ![]() Major success this time. ![]() Before it gets pointed out. The first run was with a tea bag. Still, it was a cup of tea that Zaphod Beeblebrox would have approved of after a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster hangover.

I just throw a k-cup in the Keurig after I get out of the shower, and then walk the two steps to the galley and start on some pancakes... Yeah, my idea of camping may involve a travel trailer with all the comforts of home.

Well, yeah. When I drag Chez Fromage Lite behind the Jeep I’ll pop a K-cup, if I have a an electric hookup. If I don’t, it’s the big red coffee pot on the Coleman. Coffee from that, though, is textured. But, for two or three wheel solo tent camping, I think this little Esbit will be the catsass.

I agree, when it's just some moto-camping (something I hope there will be a lot of in the future with Nugget), I try to keep it as simple as possible. I must admit, it's usually a ziplock bag with a foldgers instant crystals pack, and some sugar packets that I use. Takes up no space at all, and is super quick to get back on the road. I must say that when I'm moto-camping I tend to look at setting up camp as a necessary evil, and therefore try to get up early and hit the road. I'm not 100% sure why I'm like that when moto-camping, but fine laying around the camper all day with no real plans. Just a quirk or nature, I suppose. In any event, glad you found a new coffee maker that checks all the boxes for you!

I rough it in my RV by using a basket filter drip coffee maker; I'm patient like that. The smell of the coffee brewing makes it that much more enjoyable.

That is pretty cool. Wish I had the extra weight/space in my pack for one more thing like that. So it takes 1 fuel block to complete brewing or does it just depends on the water temp, elevation, ect? Might be worth dropping another luxury item for good coffee.

I also bought the folding Esbit stove to try out but this upcoming trip will mostly be restaurants and gas station snacks.
