So, apparently these exist...

This is called a texture/fidget board. My wife showed me one that someone had posted on pintrest. Of course, the Engineer in me piped right up and said something along the lines of "Hold my beer..." We used a bunch of off the shelf hardware parts from Home Depot, a sheet of plywood I cut down to a manageable size, and some pieces of foam pipe insulation to protect the edges. We also used some of the clip/closure things from diaper wipes to make little window-things that Nugget can open up and there's different things for the Bambino to feel on underneath. We did some cardboard corrugate, bubble wrap, little fabric pom-poms, the works. Little man is super excited playing with it. http://chinariders.net/attachment.ph...1&d=1524796620

Krasi, it was a lot harder to make than you would think. Walking through Home Depot and trying to decide if something would be an interesting texture or engaging device was really tough. I thought it would be a simple matter of buying two of these, a couple of those, maybe one of that thing over there, go home and slap it all together. Man, was I taken by surprise. There are things that would be really cool, but were a huge pinch hazard or too sharp. Then there's the ever constant worry about something falling off and becoming a choking hazard. Really turns your world upside having to think about things like that, both as a part of day-to-day parenting, and then even more when you're putting something like this together. All in all, it cost us a touch under $200USD to whip up, and the Bambino couldn't be happier with everything he gets to play with. Totally worth it, INMHO.

The very same thought goes into making similar activity boards for adults with cognitive challenges.

Went back to see the first pic and it appears the Ural was your workbench.

Cheesy, guilty as charged. The rack on the back of the tub was indeed my workbench. The house we're in now is so much smaller than our place in GA there's no room to work at all. I have to pull the other two bikes out of the garage if I want to do ant maintenance at all on the third. I did the 10,000 mile service on the DR on Wednesday, and that was a real PITA. Taking all the plastics off, and that huge gas tank, then trying to find somewhere to put everything so you're not tripping over it is not exactly my idea of a relaxing afternoon wrenching on the toys. In any event, Nugget really likes the board, and I'm calling this one a success.
