Mikuni carb on Rhino

Hey guys, just put a vm26 on my rhino and I'm running into some tuning issues. I've been reading on the forums for a while, and have done some searching. I have the 115 main, 30 pilot combo, seems to be what everyone is running. I'm at about 900ft. The quad seems to be running pretty good, besides it seems to hang in the revs if I blip the throttle off idle. I tried taking the pilot screw out another 1/4 turn but it still hangs, any ideas?

Check your throttle cable. It's possible its bound up and keeping the cable from moving freely. Look for sharp turns in the cable that is usually where the cable has the most friction.

Hey Darth, thanks for the idea, checked the cable and it moves freely, the slide moves up and down as it should, and it doesn't do it with the stock carb on.... Any other ideas?

Sounds like an intake leak. Make sure that you have a good seal between the carb and intake manifold. Check that the o-ring is thick enough to make a seal. Good way to check is t spray started fluid around the connection while it's running. If there's a leak the engine will rev.

I kinda thought that might be the case, thanks for the suggestion I'll give that a try.

I can remember someone else on here had this issue and it turned out to be the groove that the o-ring sits in was deeper than it should of been.

Also, check to make sure that the throttle cable sits all the way down inside the slide cap. Sometimes those aren't the same size. The cable sheath metal end is a little fatter than the hole in the slide cap.

Ok tried the starter fluid, I doused it around the manifold, no change in idle.... Tried moving the c clip on the needle up and the quad felt weak, tried moving it down and it was definitely fat... Checked to make sure the cable end was all the way in and it fits like a glove... Still have the hanging revs, it only hangs for a second then drops back down. The part that bothers me is when I slow after going 3/4 throttle or so the engine stays reved as I'm slowing down...

Thanks for the update. How many total turns do you have the idle mixture screw set at? Also, are you running the stock exhaust? The 115/30 may be a bit fat for it. Are you still running the stock air filter? If so, take the air filter off and see if it makes a difference. That stock filter is garbage.

Thanks for the reply 2LZ, I have the mixture screw out 1&3/4 turns. I have a pod filter I bought off Amazon like the k&n style. And I'm running stock exhaust... It feels like it runs strong from off idle and up, just wants to hang the revs. I backed off my idle speed screw and it seemed to have help, but then it wants to constantly stall. Wish my hands weren't so fat, I can't get them in there with it warm, I'll be cooking bacon.

If 115/30 is too fat for stock exhaust, what jets do you recommend? I've got a whole bag of them I can try, just need pointed in the right direction. Thanks for the help so far guys!

I think I'm currently running a 110/25 setup in my wife's TT250...which is still a CG motor. I'm at 3000' but it runs dang good and it has aftermarket exhaust and intake. Try that and see what you think. I run all of our needle clips in all of our CG's at the fourth notch down (lifting the needle slightly).

Rookie question, is a vm26 carb the same as a pz30 carb?

Nope, similar though. The VM26 is a Mikuni (clone) and the PZ is a Keihin (clone).
