motorcycle-accident-causes
Being a a newbie, I found this article as a reminder to "not fixate", in other words, go with the flow. Yes, I have had those sphincter flexing moments during hard acceleration on a turn when the rear tire decides to slip and go in the opposite direction that you want to go, OH S#/T ! HERE IS A SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE BUT I URGE EVERYONE TO CHECK OUT THIS QUICK READ. http://www.advpulse.com/adv-prepping...ccident-cause/ • Did your eyes stay locked on the threat? • Did you target fixate or maintain an open field of vision during the incident? • Were you able to unlock your eyes and redirect them toward a safe target path? • How did your body react? Did you tense up or hold your breath? • How ‘fluid’ was your brain in the moment? Did you panic and mentally ‘lock up’? • Were you able to remain calm and consciously react or were you riding scared? • Did the accident ‘come of out nowhere’? Were you looking far enough ahead?

I have practiced lots of rear brake lock maneuvers from high speed (that's really my only signature trick ), but that rear tire spin out is a little unsettling yet. It just take time and experience.

Years ago, I went off-roading with two of my friends to a place called Jawbone Canyon in California. It is located in the high desert north of L.A. and very sandy. My one friend had a CR500, the other friend had a KX500 (don't quote me on the name, but it was the 2-stroke). I was on the KX owner's other bike, a 4-stroke 250 Kawasaki something or another. All three bikes had rear paddles. It was probably the worst ride I had ever been on! We even switched bikes, and all 3 felt like I was going to crash at any moment. In fact, I had gone on a long weekend off-roading with my friend with the CR500 and other friends months later, to Pismo Beach on the sand dunes, no less, and the ride in Jawbone Canyon was worse for some reason.

weight the out side foot peg.... when your weight is below the bikes centre line ( road bike style) your weight is then pushing the rear wheel side ways instead of into the surface... then the rear wheel can take off side ways with out any control.. yer I'm not the greatest in soft sand... not riden it alot.. no sand dune type areas here... ..
