Clutch slipping?
my Roketa's clutch has been slipping when the motor is cold ever since i got it. i was hoping it'd go away but it's still doing it. any one else have this problem? any idea what could be wrong?

Are you using motorcycle engine oil?
Since bikes normally have wet clutches it´s important to use the right type of oil to avoid slippage.

Is it adjusted properly? About 1/8th inch freeplay at the lever?

yes and yes. i am useing vavoline 10/40 motorcycle oil. i also unadjusted the clutch and then readjusted it. it was ok. it only does it when it's cold. if it's hot the clutch grabs fine.

Isn't that backwards? Don't they normally grip cold and slip hot??? Maybe they put the clutch pack in backwards or a spring(s) is not seated properly.
I'll be curious to see what is causing it so please keep us posted. |

that's what i thought. i know in my car with the old organic disk when i turned up the boost and had the drag radial on the clutch slipped. and the more i kept on it the worse it got til it cooled down.

Sorry to disappoint you but Dad and I have come to the conclusion that the clutch springs are just weak. They lack the appropriate clamping force to do the job all the time. Sometimes the engines and clutches do fine, but other times when riding it hard they will slip in 5th, 4th, sometimes even 3rd. Ours have been adjusted and motorcycle oil filled, but to no avail. I figure when there is good cause to go into the engine, I'll just replace the springs.

mine doesn't do it when riding hard though. i can be beating the shit outta it (i just got done do this a little bit ago) and the clutch holds fine. but when cold, a little too much throttle and she slips.

I have noticed I have to let my clutch lever out the whole way to get mine to engage.

yeah mine releases right at the end as well. it got better as i broke it in though. i just made sure that the release lever on the motor was still able to be fully released and it was. i still tinkered with it though. i just got done climbing a little hill that was kinda steep. i was in first gear and had it floored and it almost stalled instead of the clutch slipping.
anyone know what the flywheel looks like? is it stepped like a car? maybe i could have a few thousands machined off and that would provide better clamping force?
