Upgraded tires for the Dual-sport
I did not feel very confident with the tires that came on the bike, as well as the tubes, which I have gathered are cheap, so I decided to uprade tires.
I went with the Dunlop Trailmax series. I don't plan on doing heavy off-roading, so that is why I went with them. I actually went for a quick ride with them on and they give you alot more confidence in the bike and your riding. I lean corners on the pavement and they are good for light off-roading duty. Front- Trailmax D607F 90/90-21 Rear- Trailmax 120/90-18 Full shot: Now the downside to them. I got them a little too wide, but too me its no big issue. They do rub the chain guard and are shaving it away at one spot. I shot a picture of it to show you guys.

Wow, looks great man! The rear should have been a 110, you think? Shouldn't be a problem with rubbing as long as your chain can't get to the tire. That would be bad 8O .

Like the look of the tires!! How much clearance is there to the swingarm with that tire on there? All tires will vary a little in overall width and I was hoping to be able to stuff a MEFO on the back.

Neat man, I have sitting in my garage the tires I'll be replacing mine with when they wear out. I have a 120/90-18 for the rear also, but mine are street tires. The front is a 3.00-21. It looks like I'll be replacing the rear in the next 300miles or so. I have a little more than 2300 right now and the knobs are pretty worn. I still corner with these and regularly touch the corner of my shoe on one corner going to the gym. Can't wait to see how the street tires handle. I'm trying to wear these out as fast as I can.

I even drug the back pegs with my brother on the back going 90mph around a sweeping on-ramp.... oh the young and crazy days. I would not even think of doing that stuff anymore. Amazing what having a family and responsibilities does to a guy. But my main point is that a DP bikes can handle corners better than ya might think -- I used to get a kick out of making guys with ninja's look bad. All it takes is a little skill and a lot of stupidity.... man, I was such a punk 16 years ago.

Thanks for the headups John, I will make sure of it! I've only managed to touch the peg once in the same corner. It's almost a 60 degree turn, so the on/off ramps are only a little less sever. But that's what I love about riding motorcycles. And you're right I couldn't imagine doing some of the stuff I get away with on anything other than a small sportbike. Certainly not the Concours, although it does handle well for an 80's technology bike that weighs almost 600lbs.

Peg dragging was fun -- the guys with the rockets would tell me they couldn't do it because their exhaust would drag. My Interceptor never had a problem with that though.
Used to have people line up and watch me park my KLR -- going about 10-15mph making a big slow sweeping turn dragging the left peg the whole time... sssssccccccccrrrrraaaaaaaaappppppeeeeeeee!!!!! My KLR had little rubber pads on the tops of the footpegs and they were ground down like wedges. This board brings all those old memories back for me... One day they plowed all the snow from the parking lot into the motorcycle parking... I just drove right up over the 5' mound of snow and parked my bike in the middle of it.... like I said before -- I was such a punk. I guess that's the way it goes when you're young though.

Yep, John, does bring back some old memories. Your snow story made me laugh. When I was in high school (oh so many years ago) I finished my morning chores on the farm, cleaned up and saddled up my Bridgestone 100, and rode the 6 miles to school thru snow about a foot and a half deep. When I pulled up to the school the principal was just leaving and he told me school had been cancelled and that I should probably be commited for riding in!
