Doh! Battery charging...

Have you ever done one of those things that you just can't believe!
You know, one of those things that make you think: "How in the heck could he do something so stupid!?"

I certainly did one about 2 weeks ago.
Yes I connected my battery tender backwards. The positive to the negative, yada, yada.
My charger tried to tell me it was wrong. There was a little red light lit up on the front of it. I didn't look too close (needless to say). I thought it was just a power light.
But a week after hooking it up I looked closer at the charger and realized that there are 3 lights. Yellow = charging, Green = charged, Red = problem. If you see red right away you should disconnect immediately not a week later.
Bye, bye battery. I tried charging it correctly and it wouldn't hold a charge longer than about 20 seconds and not enough juice to even turn the starter.
So I looked around and found one of these:

Even with shipping it was only $26. Works great.
They have a couple left if you need a battery.

And no, there was no alcohol involved in any of this story. I wish I could blame it on that.

Will this battery on eBay be better than the piece of crap they give us? As far as starting on cold days, etc.

Roketarider,
You may want to try a couple of things.

First the choke will sometimes pull back partially open by itself once you pull it up. Hold it all the way up and try starting.

Second, the c-clip move to the last or next to last spot will help. Ours is on the last (closest to the pointed end) This has allow us to pretty much start without choking, even on cold days. We also, have the brass fuel/air mixture screw out about 2 turns.

C-clip? not sure what you mean by that, could you provide a picture or a better idea of where it is located at?

I looked at that screw, but have not adjusted it.

I don't know yet. It is Chinese too.
I never really had any issues with the previous battery.

Also that is the battery for the GY-5.
I believe the GY-2 has a different shape/size battery.

ah, thank you. Not sure if I want to mess with that that. The bike runs fine as-is right now.

You had mentioned cold weather starting, that's why I suggested it. It has definitely improved ours.

I had trouble that one day. It usually stays in my living room (single living!) and has little trouble, but that day it was sitting outside my office in the cold for the better part of the day.

There's a battery that WallyWorld sells that's ALMOST small enough for the Diamo's battery box. I put one in a Lifan some time back, just jammed it in. His battery box was busted anyway, so I ty wrapped everything since that's how he wanted to do it. The battery isn't sealed, so if you fall over, you could spill electrolyte.

The batteries I've gotten off Diamo, though, are pretty decent. The one I have in there now has been in there a year and is still strong, not bad. If they came without electrolyte, I'd order a supply of 'em for resale and use in case I need one, but batteries don't sit well once juiced.
