to unhook or not ???
I unhooked the smog stuff and blocked it of, cause i had heard hear that i could gain a little power ,now it runs worse, plugs shows a rich condition, where with smog stuff hooked up it was perfect. Now it won't idle,so i adjusted the idle, and ran the air screw in a turn and this has helped alittle ,but if you snap the throttle fast it the engine just dies.Is it worth it to screw around adjusting ,or just hook the smog stuff back up..

What smog crud did you remove? Mine had an EGR appearing contraption that I removed. It made no real difference in the way the motor ran.I plugged the exhaust outlet and air box intake for it as well as the vacuum like. If the vacuum line is left hanging or is leaking the motor will suffer. Have you performed the c-clip carb. mod covered in the DS prep thread? If all else fails, put the crap back on and start from there.

smog unhook
blocked everything you mentioned ,stuck bolts in the vacuum lines and zip tied them, did not do clip mod, cause with the smog stuff on it was running pretty good ,just not much power ,if unhooking this stuff does'nt do much ,i'll hook it back up.But what would help the throttle response?? ,If the throttle is snapped quickly it stalls.

sounds like not enough air -- is your filter clean and free flowing? You said it shows rich with also leans to not enough air (or too much fuel) -- lean it out or let 'er breath.... or put it all back together and see if you can get it to run as it did.

smog stuff
yeah, filter and bike are brand new ,think i'll just put it back the way it was ,unless some one can tell that unhooking it makes a noticable difference.

If it continues to run really rich, I would move the needle clip up a notch and see if that takes care of it. What elevation are you running at?

I believe the needle is active from idle to mid-throttle, so it should help. It's a painless adjustment that can always be reversed.
