Cascade Mountains, Washington and Mt. Rainier.

This is not my picture but was taken off one of the trails we will be riding this weekend. I can't wait! I'm not sure how much my back will appreciate camping but it will be more than worth it.

As much as I miss California, Washington can be every bit as magnificent

. The difference is the winter weather being a downside

, but the greatly incresed freedom of accessibility being an upside.

Wow. This was an epic ride. I hahve no idea how many miles but I logged 8 hours on the meter on the YZ. That may not sound like a lot but every inch of it was on rough single track. I don't think I ever rested a moment. Roots, rocks, steep drop offs, trees, aggressive climbs, water crossings. Everything but easy!

I am please to say everyone came through great, some scrapes and bumps and a couple scratches and broken levers. I was blessed. The YZ and I never went down. Indeed I was very pleased with my riding, and I have never been more impressed by the performance of the YZ. That bike did great

!

Roger and I was the least skilled riders. The other guys are real experts, one is even an ex National Enduro rider.

Sorry many of these pics are unclear. I think my little camera is on its way out. I have a newer one but have not seen it since the move...

I followed Rob and his DRZ for much of the ride. Once I came upon the DRZ on its side, running, and no Rob. He was about 50 feet down a 45 degree hill/cliff wedged into a tree. Both Rob and the bike were fine. 8O

Yes we went over that log. And God knows only how many more.

Sunny warm and beautiful weather. Never saw a cloud, but I bet it was 35 degrees in my little tent at night at 4,500 feet!

I really like and respect this bike. I am grateful for it.

Many times the trails would cross fire roads but we never too the fire road. The trail here heads steeply up the embankment to the left of the picture.

The other guys we rode with were experts on the trails there and led all the time. God only knows how many hundreds of miles of trails there are there.

Note the duct tape and zip ties holding on my inner rear fender... :roll:

I lost a bolt on the trail. The pounding was ferocious. It's all fixed now 8) . I just realized this pic may be before the bolt was lost...

These guys went throug a six pack of Bud Lite every 2 hours or so... I don't drink and ride. Actually I hardly drink. It did not effect these guys at all. Although Rob did wind up wedged in a tree... :?

Linda and I flew to Packwood, Washington, high in the Cascade Mountains for a little Labor Day Festival today. :P

Another amazing day. NO WAY can pics do justice to the beauty we saw. God sure can create!

Final approach.

Tricky 8O !! Steep approach needed to clear trees on short final. You need to drag it in on power behind the curve or close to it at slow speed to clear the trees and fence and still land on first 300 feet of the runway. You don't want to go long on this skinny little strip. There's a mountain to clear on the other end.

Post landing procedeure here is to check landing gear for pine needles, and check you shorts for stains. Thank God we brought it in real nice and touched down softly at the correct spot. Whew.

Cool video of a guy landing a Cessna 170 at the same airport 8) .

I learned something form this. Rather than setting up final approach straight, which is normal, he zig-zagged pretty far off to the left of centerline to get below the treetops sooner. Then a quick dog-leg and he was back on a normal approach

Sometimes I don't think outside the box, like this simple solution but at least I can learn when I see it :roll: .
