G'Day from Western Australia
G'Day,
I've been lurking on this site as a guest. This is a great site and really helped me keep my Zongshen going. I bought a Zongshen lzx200gy-2 about 3 years ago and done over 22,000kms on it. Other than an early engine failure on the bike whilst it was under warranty I haven't really had major issues with the bike. The bike now has road tyres and only gets used for commuting to and from work at the moment. The speedo stopped working just over 18,500kms and I've tracked the fault to the speedo gear drive at the front wheel. I've fitted a bicycle speedo/cmputure to get me through but would really like to get the stock speedo going again. The local Zongshen importer can't help me here so hoping that someone might be able to point me in the right direction. Anyone recommend a good supplier? Is there an alternative gear drive out there (ie would a TW200 drive suit?) Cheers -JC- |

Welcome. Nice pics.
Spud will likely be able to point you in the right direction for the speedo gear. |

Welcome! It looks like about two feet between the front wheel and the ground in the first pic.
I believe that Spud has identified the hubs on the Zong, and I'll bet that he has a solution.

Was just riding along the Freeway and the engine died, lost compression. Engine had just under 1,200kms on it at the time and was covered under warranty (took 3 months). |

The speedometer gear drive must be the correct size, and shape to mate with the Zongshen front wheel, and forks. Therefore, I doubt a Yamaha part would fit. However, several other Chinese motorcycles employ the same front wheel as your Zong. Therefore, you might be able to employ a speedometer gear drive taken from certain Viva, Roketa, or other Chinese motorcycles. For example, the Roketa DB-07A employs the same front wheel as your Zongshen 200GY-2. Therefore, part #55 in the following parts diagram would probably work well with your Zongshen speedometer. http://www.roketa.com/product/parts_detail.jsp?partId=11634&partName=STEERING%20 ASSEMBLY(5) Spud

I haven't verified the following part will work, but you might also examine the speedometer gear drive for the Kawasaki, BN125 Eliminator motorcycle. This is part #41078-1087 in the Kawasaki parts diagram shown below.
