I cleaned the carb. It still overflows. I think I need a new needle valve, but the pivot pin is kinda stuck. The jets looked OK. It will not idle though. I think I got everything clen but maybe not...
Maybe a new carb? They are cheap IIRC. I changed the oil. The plug was a light tan and I gapped it to .028. It needs an air filter element. The metal screen basket is intact. It needs the little hose between the airbox and the carb. I'm thinking of bagging it for a universal Uni Filter... The suspension is terrible of course. There is no oil in the forks. I took it up the hills by my house and had some fun. The front tire was flat and very badly dry rotted and unsafe. I picked a spare out of Andy's take-off tire pile. Very nice Dunlop with 80% tread left. Free. I used a spare tube I had laying around. Free. I used 3 part filled random oil bottles I had. Free. I adjusted the chain. It's in bad shape. A 428. May locate a new one.

With W&G's help I got the carb working properly. The pilot was plugged soild with something. I used a single bristle from a wire brush and some patience and carb cleaner and got it patent.
The bike now runs and idles well. Thank God. :wink:

Next question. The bike no longer has a battery or wiring harness. If I want to hook up a head and taillight do I need a battery or can I just tap into a stator wire?

The headlight usually has a dedicated coil, but the tail light runs off of the battery. The idea is that the tail light is supposed to turn on as soon as you turn the key, but the headlight needs a running engine. Is the regulator still there?
BTW, I picked up a small 6v / 5Ah gel cell battery for around $13.00. It has more capacity than the original battery in the TS185, and it doesn't use a vent tube.

I don't think the bike has a harness anymore.
What motivates people to take all the street legal gear off a bike anyways? Why destroy utility like that? It can't be weight. The 15 lbs of street equipment can't matter on a tiny trail bike anyways... :?: In any event, I think I'm gonna sell it. Now that its running great I know someone who wants to give me $400 for it. There's a 1983 XR250 I have my eye on for $400...

The little Honda looks pretty good! I would have to say I agree with you though, if you can sell it for the price that you can pick up an XR250 for I would go for the XR250... A worthy Dirt Rat replacement!

The guy is coming to look at it and hopefully pick it up soon.
The XR250 runs well and with the 4 Valve RFVCC its very strong, plus it has good suspension. The 250 may make a good replacement for The Dirt Rat. Nothing will ever really replace The Dirt Rat though. I lament selling that bike, and for the lousy Pitster Pro of all things!
