Off Roading
I took my slightly modified shineray 200xyI for a hard trailll ride with my friend who rides a nice 87 cr250. I thought I would be left in the dust, let me tell you that shineray handled like a mountain bike and had great torque. I can safely say this is the funnest bike I have ever owend. The suspesnion was better than expected, not gret but I shal not complain, I only have 1500$ in this bike, what a great bike. Can't wait tilll the MX250's from shineray get here, they look and sound nasty!

Sounds great chris. Are you still running the stock 56 tooth rear sprocket? My 45 tooth sprocket with 428h chain just showed up from endless journey cycles for my shine. Can't wait to install it and see how it does on the road. I agree with you on the fun factor of these bikes. Mines a blast.

No, I run a 17 t in front and a 46 tooth in back, i bit tall for the woods, but i ride the road mainly and still have not run out of steam in the woods, the engine is very torque-y .

You should hang with the old CR just fine...it's not a trail bike...and they have about the same torque. The CR has gobs more horsepower, but you can't use it if you're not going fast.
This is why I don't have a hard time keeping up with banshee riders on my Hibird 250 on the rough terrain. Of course once we get out in the open it's a different story...

cr has craploads more torque at all rpms compared to the china bike, in the tight woods its not as usable though, so lower power bikes wont have too much trouble keeping up

Yes the cr was fast, however it is not as easy to flick around and dose not have torque down low like I have to play with. I am thinking of buying a 250cc top end this winter and seeing if it works well. So far the full race cdi has made the biggest difference,really has a nice timing advance curve. I still can't belive you got the xr400 engine in that bike, you are a crazy man, great job by the way, came out nice

24lbs of torque may be 2 or 3 lbs more than the chinese 250 makes, but there's not a broad gap. On top of that, it's torque is up in the stratosphere compared to the Chinabike which makes 80% of it's torque off idle.
The cR is faster. Gobs and gobs faster. But it has to be going fast to get to that power. Catch 22 for old-school smokers...they're fast, but only if you go fast enough. You're never going to see their output on a trail.

So, about converting my 200 to a 250cc, you think it is waste of time? For the small gain in power.

I don't like the 200cc engine so much but I'm more impressed every day with my 250. If you can find one, do it.

Found a piston and cylinder (250cc) that will go right on my engine, I may have to have the cylinder and piston decked at my loacl machine shop, whatever, winter is long and shitty, I will have plenty o time.
