Magician 250 Digital Cluster

So a couple months back I ordered a universal digital gauge cluster with universal speedometer for my Magician as I had been having speedometer issues with the needle fluctuating a lot and just being jealous of those neat hawk digital clusters. I cheaped out and found the option I wanted on ebay for $30 with a month long shipping max. I thought I could just wait but the seller closed their Ebay account shortly before the expected arrival date. So second try I find pretty much the same thing on Amazon for 42.50 with prime shipping.

I already made a bracket and have it mounted on the bike. I still have to make a bracket to mount the speed sensor, so after that I can calibrate it and make a comment as to accuracy. So far though I have everything else working except the fuel level sensor which the level light hasn't come on in the 2 times I've run out of gas. The tachometer seems accurate enough, I have 2 individual turn signal indicators now, and my high beam indication is up high now. Only complaint is that the pictures on Amazon showed the cluster with the top panel having N12345 up top but it really only has the N, high beam, turn signals, and check engine light up there and displays 1-6 on the digital screen to the right of the odometer.

full digital is better IMO.. At least better than a good Chinese analog

We need the ability to set a retarder for speed cause they are all off by at least 3MPH..

So I made a bracket to hold the speed sensor next to the front fender and mounted a single neodymium magnet on the rim. So the instructions say that when calibrating it I should be entering the circumference of the wheel (mm) / number of magnets. However that doesn't seem accurate after reading the Amazon reviews. Someone said that 008 worked best for them and I found that after a lot of trial and error 009 works best for me. I don't have a phone holder so to calibrate it I do have a GPS speedometer app that records top speed so I would go out and hold it at a certain speed and check the difference. Currently it seems farily accurate through 30mph but had a 3mph difference when going 45mph. I think I might add another magnet to get a faster and mroe accurate reading.

If you are close to a highway you can use the mile markers to check the odometer. If that checks out you should be spot on for the speedometer...provided the calibration is correct between the two.
