GPS set ups?
Any setups that seem to work better than others? Mounts other than bar mounts?

I mount my GPS receiver to the handlebars with a RAM mount. However, several people mount the GPS to the windshield bracket. I'm sure they will reply soon.

I have this mount from ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Waterproof-B...8AAOxyCGNTOi-W It works OK, but I would like it better if I put on some 1" risers and mounted it in the center of the bar. |

Here's my setup, transferred from a previous bike.
I chose the Touratech mount because it has isolators to reduce the effects of rough roads and it locks the GPS to the mount. I'm comfortable with the security; I don't worry about the GPS during lunch stops or when camping. Also, visible above the speedo is my ambient temperature gauge. It is attached with Velcro. Bought it here: http://www.aerostich.com/mini-remote-thermometer.html

I like mine mounted up high just below where I'm looking normally so I can see it at a glance w/o having to take my eyes off the road for very long. Makes me feel like a Daker wannabeee. rj

Zumo 660 Ram Mount to the windshield bracket. Tucks nicely behind the windshield out of the weather.

I use the following phone mount with my Android phone:
http://www.amazon.com/Vibrelli-Unive...le+phone+mount Also, I install OSMAnd. I suggest anyone with an Android phone to have OSMAnd installed and your respective region downloaded before leaving mobile coverage - when I visited Japan I downloaded the entire country in ~250MB which makes an excellent backup map. |
