He missed me.
He was a tough guy until daddy came to bail him out. By the time his dad got done tearing him a new a$$hole, he was pretty complacent. Dad let the police impound his car and made the kid spend the weekend in jail. I dropped the charges after it appeared junior was going to be walking funny for quite some time.

well done, doc. I have done a metric century, over 60 miles, but never 100 miles in one day.

On the plus side, I got to mingle with early RAAM riders like Lon Haldeman, John Howard, John Marino, Mike Shermer, and Pete Penseyers. Did a few 24 hour Time Trials(302 miles was my best and that was good for the middle of the pack) and got to do Paris-Brest-Paris, even if I did finish 5th from last. The shine started to wear off of the distance stuff in '95 (I was 39 and my resting pulse was 32) and I think my last century was 2009 or 2010. I did that final one on a fixed gear just to prove to myself I still could. I can still talk myself into doing 50 miles on the 3 speed but those are an all day affair because the rest stops include beer and a good meal; sometimes a single malt for dessert. Like you said said, Doc, lots of memories.

Cheesy, you have had a wonderful ride so far, and it is a pleasure to read all the things that you still do. You have had some amazing experiences.
Wheel Bender, 62 miles is a very major accomplishment. I would be satisfied with that any day of the week. By the way, if you did the 62, I am sure you could've gone the hundred if you chose to . It's worth 38 just to get back home LOL

Scored a 1973 Columbia 3 speed for zero dollars today. For the most part, a crappy bike, but it came with nice Sturmey Acher bits, straight rims and chrome fenders. Everything needed to finish the French built Ross I started several years ago.
Picking it up tomorrow, pics then. What parts I don't use will either end up donated to the bike co-op or to Rat Rod Bikes. Nothing gets trashed. http://www.ratrodbikes.com/

Cool website Cheesy!
Free is good. Looks like a great parts donor! My error is I restore stuff that should be parted out. For example I have a sweet vintage Trek that needed a new rear wheel. I found another vintage Trek with perfect wheels for less than the price of one wheel so I bought it for the wheels. Dumbass me, rather than swap the wheels and flip it, I restored it. Now I have 2 elegant vintage Treks (three actually...) and still need a wheel. Oh the tragedy!

In my junk pile I had a trek 800 frame with fork, bars, brakes, shifters, and derailleurs. I got it for free 3-4 years ago and forgot about it until I pull the pile of bike parts down.
I also had some Michelin city tires, and I think some aluminum wheels from random other bikes. Missing is a chain, good tubes, seat and seat post.

I don't know how happy the guy that I got the bike from is with me right now. I got tied up all day Sunday and didn't get over to pick up the bike. Now I'm in Mexico City until Saturday. BTW, it's freaking hot down here.

Looks like a nice classic TIG welded chrome-moly steel Trek. A quality starting place. Decent new wheels are available cheap. Look at bikeisland.com and velomine.com. City tires EXCELLENT idea. Knobbies have tremendous drag on the road and, well, are a drag on the road ;-)

Doc, I will need to check those sites out. I just need some decent wheels and a couple parts to make this work. The tires will be just fine for my riding.

Trying to keep it low buck too. I haven't searched my stash for a seat post yet.
