I bought the UM Renegade ZS169FML for 250.00. It has only 1100 miles on it. No compression. Turned out someone did it's initial service replaced the spark plug with the wrong one. It was too long. Punched a hole in the piston, broke the intake valve and drove it like a nail thru the top of the cylinder head. I cannot find a piston or cylinder head for it. I'll start a new thread on it,, but if you know of a source for said parts please let me know.

Haven't had much of a chance to trouble shoot the gy 200. But the stator for the Baja 250cc ZS167FMM arrived today. Please see the thread.

Checked out the ignition electrical today. Continuity on all wiring okay. The coil ohms read okay, on the primary and secondary sides (no spark though). The stator and pickup all read the correct AC, 5v and 80v. All kill and ignition switches check out. Ground test was okay. Pretty good indicator the CDI is dead...i think. One last test to see if I'm getting voltage out of the cdi to the coil.

Tested for voltage to the primary side of the coil, 0.0v, when the starter is engaged. Almost looks like a ground fault,(kill switch?) flat zero. Or just a dead cdi. Now dig into the wiring diagram and try and decipher which one is the kill wire on the CDI. I know on a 6 wire ac, but not on an 8 wire dc cdi. Not sure if I'll have to run wires directly from the cdi and stator, to the coil. Also not sure what the 9 pin jumper block is all about. One jumper installed.
All new ignition and wiring from Taobao.com is lookin better than wasted time. (reminds me of Spocks Vulcan aunt!) Actually I learned quite a bit about CDI. Last edited by oviking99; 08-14-2013 at 11:52 PM. |

Ordered the wiring harness, CDI, Coil, and regulator for 55.00 from Taobao.com. Can't wait to hear it 'thump'. I was under the impression that if your headlamp turns on before you start the engine, it is a DC CDI, which mine does. I'm hoping the CDI I ordered is correct.

If your Vento is the same as my Zong, you need an AC-CDI unit.

I received the harness, CDI, Coil, and Rectifier today. From order to receiving was 14 days. That included a slight delay for the CDI which was out of stock. I'll post pictures tomorrow. The CDI I received was stamped 167FML

Alas, she has spark! Just a quick check by replacing all but the wiring harness in the ignition system. My goodness what a small battery, it won't crank over but a few times with the headlight draw. Kick starter shows plenty of spark though. When I get time, I need to clean the tank, install a new fuel filter and try an kick her over. I'm hoping I can post a video later! Yeehaw!

She's alive! Video. Now to reassemble the clutch.
I hope I posted this okay. I'll delete it if it's wrong. I am as pleased as a Georgia Peach that I actually have a grand total of $250 invested in a nice bike! Thanks a bunch for all the help! By the way do not do as I do with the headlamp hangin' by the wires. The harness will be replaced. Last edited by oviking99; 08-30-2013 at 07:10 PM. |
