I mounted an inexpensive camera on the Mavila and rode through the San Juan neighborhood here in Lima, It will be obvious that I don't know anything about video editing but will learn and do a better job next time.

I like how the one-way arrows are more of a suggestion.
Is that market set up on the street every day? We have a local farmer's market that sets up in a similar fashion on Saturdays, but ours is very small. Also, ours has no Cuy.

Spud & Weld,
I experimented with a couple of cameras, a no-name cheap video camera that didn't work at all, I then mounted a Canon A800 on my handlebar, it works as long as I'm going slow. Those markets are open everyday. Lima is the most deadly city in the world for pedestrians, motor vehicles have the right of way, it's nuts, over 600 pedestrians were killed in Lima last year. It's a free for all on the streets of Lima, no one obeys the rules. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=aX7B3gsASWfE

Just touching base, Ron (roncon09) got into our place early this morning, it took him 30 hours to get here from Bangkok. We spent the day trying to sort out the paperwork so that he can legally buy a moto, frustrating day, I waited hours while he dealt with the Peruvian bureaucracy, long story short, he didn't get it done. Back to square one, we will start the process over again tomorrow morning, this time at Immigrations, hopefully, we will be able to sort it out. Nothing is easy in Peru, after he gets permission to sign a contract it will take 10 days to buy a moto.
I finally got my Aerostich catalog today, page 99, that's me on the right, I remember that day well, riding the beautiful North Cascades Highway with my buddies, it doesn't get any better than that.

I love the Cascades; I'm privelidged to live among them.
At the risk of sounding like a redneck, is there some form of graft that could accelerate the process of Ron getting a moto? This all sounds really silly.

Ron got the Permisso Para Firma Contrato on Wednesday morning, he is now legal and can purchase a moto. We had a great day checking out a lot of moto dealers, they are now saying that it will take 15 days to complete the paperwork. Weld, I don't think paying a "propina" would speed things up in this situation, too many agencies involved. After a few beers Wednesday night he decided to fly to Iquitos, as you guys might remember it's on the Amazon, Iquitos is also a tax-free zone, not sure what Ron is going to do but it is possible to buy a Honda there with out paying the import tax. I'm sure he will post a blog somewhere when and if he gets on the road.
I had to add this, Mark's Golem is for sale and stored by a friend of his, he had to move his FJ-40 to show us the moto, it's a 1977 with 45,000 miles on it and was bought new by his grandfather. Not a scratch on it!

Nice looking Land Cruiser.
I have a patient here who makes his living restoring them. They are a real collector's item.

Thanks for the update, OG. If I were Ron, I would seriously consider buying the Golem; it looked like a nice motorcycle.

I've been following this rider's blog and previously posted a link to it, he is riding South America on a Ronco Demolition (Shineray). Here is another link, http://www.madaru.net/days_waiting.html scroll down, he blew the engine up near Punta Arenas, there was only 8000 km on the moto, take a look at his photos of the engine, I wonder what would have caused this. I don't know the rider but feel bad for him, he's at the bottom of the world and winter is setting in.

Since the engine had sufficient motor oil, the catastrophic failure must have been caused by a manufacturing defect. Based upon those photographs, I would never buy a Ronco Demolition motorcycle! 8O Apparently the name "Demoliton" can be taken literally. :(

These are Ron's photos, he is currently riding the Peruvian Andes on his Yamaha YB125. He spent several days here in Lima, ended up buying the Yamaha in Cusco, he's a good guy with a ton of experience on motorcycles, riding the Andes on a 125 is no easy feat.
