oldgringo,
Thanks for the great photos of Peru. Brings back memories of our trip to Cusco and Machu Picchu back in the late 1980's. I remember hoards of VW beetles being driven like crazy and constantly blowing their horns in Lima. Have the three wheelers replaced the VWs? |

Doc,
40 mph downhill maybe, I rode 30 miles in one on a very rough road last December, the trip took almost two hours! Barnone, the mototaxis aren't allowed in the downtown area, I still see beetles but the VW taxis are gone, the horns are still blaring . I should also mention that there are companies here that assemble motos from Chinese parts, RTM seems to be the largest assembler They are inexpensive http://www.tecnimotors.com/planta.html I see RTMs everywhere. I'm attaching a photo of an interesting Chinese moto that I saw at a show a few months ago, I recall that it was a 400, sorry I don't remember the manufacturer, I do remember that it was a nice machine. A dump box! I love it! I may need to add this to the massive list of things I gotta build. BTW, that's an ad for a Canadian bank in the background. Here it's known as Scotiabank.

I am sure that one of those trucks could be easily built. Thinking that 400-600cc engine would be able to pull it to 60mph.

I like the leading link front suspension. Very appropiate for that application.

I never even noticed that! I'd like to have a closer look at one. I wonder if it's twitchy at speed?

The more I think about it. Probably safer to stay under 30mph on one.
Would be great as an in town vehicle. |

I went into Lima and bought a Mavila Cavalry today, it will be several days before I can ride it home. Peru requires that it be titled and plated before I can buy the mandatory SOAT (insurance), it was a great buying experience, a real nice shop and salesperson.
Spud, I stand corrected, it does have a 18" rear tire. I'll break it in correctly, if it proves reliable I'll load on a boat and head down to Iquitos on the Amazon, I may also take over to Bolivia. Thanks again for everyones input. Gary This Cavalry was in the showroom, I ordered a black one, The Mavila store in Lima Mavila Murano, 125cc,

Thank you for posting all the great photos, Gary. Congratulations on purchasing the new bike! Please do post photos of your travels; we will very much enjoy viewing them.
The 400cc bike shown in one of your photos is a Xingyue. Pitster Pro is selling a variant of this bike, with the same engine, in the United States. P.S. I got unsubscribed from this thread, and I am certain I didn't do anything to cause it! Is this unpleasant phenomenon happening to anyone else? This is the second time I have been unsubscribed from a great thread, and I certainly hope it doesn't happen again! :( Spud
