I took the muffler off the bike, and shoke it real hard. I didn't feel anything loose inside. I plan to try different mufflers. I might as well dissect the stock muffler. Should I cut at A or B?
Here is the input end of the muffler. The sealing material inside the pipe doesn't look good. Where can I get this sealing material?

Here's what it looks like. The aluminum pipe is 1" OD and came from an old Coleman foldup camp chair leg. You can see evidence of the holes drilled along it's length. The Corvair Turbo emblem and ATV holds the pipe in place with wire for safe keeping.

I like the recycling. I can probably find an old chair to cut up.
To answer the questions of where to cut. I would cut it at "A". Allen

If I'm welding something on the frame of the bike, does the gas tank need to be removed first?

It is not a bad idea. Also disconnect the battery.

Yeah, I just bought a Mig welder from Harbor. I tested it on some angle iron from my chinabike's crate and a galvanized sheet. Metal just splatter everywhere. I see it's going to take some practice. :(
p.s. I realize afterward that welding galvanized metal is a no-no. I hope I didn't inhale too much.

I thought my bike was too quiet so I bought a glass packed muffler for a Xmotos 250 dirt bike. The muffler, air filter and jet really opened the bike up. This muffler is pretty loud and it has a nice throaty sound. I had to weld an extension onto to stock header to make it fit. It also took a lot of weight off the bike. Here's a pic.

Right weld outside or wear a mask, Welding GAL is not good at all for the body.

I didn't know the sheet metal was GAL until afterwards. How can one tell if the metal is GAL?
Is any part of china bike GAL?
