KPX 250 RPM readings at 5000rpm
My KPX 250 is new and has about 350 miles on it. It has stock gearing and sprockets. Today I wanted to get some details on engine and rpm.
I am 6'1", 180 lbs, no wind and about 84 degrees. Here is the mph at 5000 rpm in each gear. 1st - 12-13 mph 2nd- 19-20 mph 3rd- 29-30 mph 4th- 37-38 mph 5th- 43-45 mph 6th- 47-50 mph 60 mph it was turning 6300-6400 rpm. Are these numbers close on your stock KPX? I probably will be looking to lower the teeth on the rear. Also, my gas mileage is about 81mpg with mostly 35-50mph on back roads. KPXRandy |

Those numbers look about right. I wouldn't recommend changing the rear sprocket unless you aren't doing much low speed offroad riding as you'll end up having to feather the clutch alot more under 10 mph. There have been times when I"ve wished 1st gear was even slightly lower than it is and since I don't usually go over 50 mph the stock gearing has worked fine. I'd recommend riding it as is for a couple thousand miles then decide if you still want to make changes.

I would leave that gearing exactly like it is. For the power and size of that bike, 60mph at close to 6500 is just about perfect for the last gear.
