Stuck at full throttle after carb adjustment??
I've reconnected the throttle cable correctly but when I compress the spring the throttle cable goes into the carb. Any ideas?

The slide is probably not lined up correctly and hanging up on the tab that stops it from rotating. Or, the needle is getting hung up.

Dan's suggestion that the needle isn't going into the main jet circuit, propping up the slide at full throttle is a good guess. Although I don't know how you can screw the cap on the tower if it isn't past that point at least. It may be that you don't have the slide guide in the slot on the slide. But even that seems wouldn't allow the slide down far enough to replace the tower cap!
The slide should easily move all the way down into the tower. I always use silicon spray when installing the slide. This wouldn't fix what's wrong, but it helps make the slide move freely. The other thing to look at is to make sure that the throttle cable is routed so that there is not a sharp bend in it. That can not only cause friction that doesn't allow the slide spring to push the slide back down, but also wears out the cable quickly. Route the cable with one long bend to line up with the frame bar that goes from the seat to the from steering stem housing. Use zipstrips to gently secure it to that frame member. This goes for routing from there up to the twist grip as well. Route it so that it has minimal bending, and no sharp turns. When I work on that cable, I usually remove it and use silicon spray to coat the internal surface of the cable housing (using the red plastic "hose" that comes with the spray). Throttle should twist freely and "snap back" instantly when you let it go!

I'll echo that Dan's assessment is probably correct. Take the slide back out and make sure it's installed correctly.
I once fixed a similar issue on a CRF125 that someone brought to me, having discovered that the owner managed to install the slide backwards. This is apparently possible if it is inserted with sufficient gusto, and has the side effect of propping the throttle permanently open because the slide will rest on the tip of the idle adjustment screw and never be able to close beyond that point. |

The return spring for the throttle is the one you are compressing, but being a single pull cable system there is nothing pushing back the other direction. Roll the actual throttle back and the cable should move as well. If it doesn't move easily/freely, or doesn't move at all, then you may have a bind somewhere in the system. Where that may be you will have to determine. I would start at the throttle tube and work my way back.
