Proper Chain Tension/Adjustment?

Can anyone point me in the right direction on proper chain tension on a chinese quad? I adjusted it to have about 3/4-1" of freeplay with no one on it. But as soon as someone sits on it (60ish lbs) the chain gets really really tight.

Should I increase the freeplay to around 2" when no one is on?

Disconnect tensioner if there is one then the idea is to find the tightest point and adjust play to 10mm to 20mm. The tightest point is where the center point of swing arm pivot, front sprocket, and rear sprocket are in a straight line.

This quad just has the two adjusting tensioners on the rear axle. If I do that, when no weight is on the quad the tension is fine when someone sits on it but extremely loose when no weight is on it, is that okay?

If it's really loose with no weight on it, so loose that it comes off, it'll need a spring loaded idler installed. The chain must have 10mm to 20mm play at the tightest point or something will have to give. Usually the chain will break but other things including the transmission countershaft or even the engine case can break.
