New Hawk 250 in STL MO
Hey everyone. Had my Hawk 250 from Texas Power Sports for a week now. No problem shipping, fully assembled. Now if I could figure out where the choke position should be I'd be happy. Surprised it's not talked about in the manual. Looking forward to sharing information. Thanks to all. Stay safe and have fun!

Right on Herbie. Thanks for the info! Glad to hear you are getting yours as well Zazu. I was concerned about the licensing here in Missouri as I wasn't sure if all would go well, but it was smooth sailing! Have fun y'all!

I've been trying to look into that. So what all did you need to bring with you to the licensing office? Just the MCO? Did they make you get it inspected? Did they make you pay tax on it?

I brought the bill of sale and title that was sent a couple days later. Proof of insurance and my proof of paid previous year's personal property tax. And they did make me pay taxes! No inspection required.

Did you check the valve lash yet? I just had the same problem, then adjusted the push rod gap. turns out they had zero gap. starts and idles great now.

Thanks for the info! I haven't checked that. Now, if only I knew how! Looks like I'm fixing to have to learn a whole lot with this sucker. Good thing I knew that before I purchased. I'm hopeful since you had the same issue.

With the temperature in the 80-90 degree like its been around here lately you probably want the choke all the way down which is off. You may have to give it a little throttle until it warms up.

Yeah it runs with no problem when choke lever is all the way down or even in the middle. Just didn't want to be doing anything that would damage the bike.

I understand. I am only about 40 minutes from St louis so if you run into some problems or would like a little instruction like for valve clearance adjust, just let me know. I can look over your shoulder as you do the work, which is the best way for learning.

Well I'm pretty bummed. Contacted Tx Powersports and they said it sounds like a Carburator issue. I guess they are going to send a new carb. I can't believe I purchased a new motorcycle, rode it three times, each time the bike struggled to stay on, eventually dying. Unable to start it again till I tried hours later. 14 miles total around my neighborhood and now I'm looking forward to having fun with Motorcycle repair 101. And I wonder what happens if I do all that and it still won't work. Lesson learned, don't buy a motorcycle from another state. I had hoped that like many people the odds would be with me and I would get a good one. Maybe I'd have some issues down the line but man...14 miles?

Adjust the valves. You will be surprised how much better It will run. Valves will come set too tight from the factory.

Thanks Jerry. I wonder if it would make better sense to install a "better carb instead of replacing with the same kind? Especially since you say it needs to be adjusted anyway. That is if there is really a preferable option available. I guess if Motorcycle repair 101 is imminent and unavoidable, I should prepare to relax enjoy it. My new signature for this new Hawk 250 era! ;-)
