The bike should be level. I use the sight glass to be sure about the oil level.

Use the sight glass, and cut the dip stick off the cap and throw it in the garbage. After what happed to C1500's bike, that is the FIRST thing I will do to my bike once I get it.

The CG motor? Drain, plug, dump in a full quart. The counter balanced motor, a bit more....but check the site glass straight up before topping off. That easy.

Yep, the dipstick is not to be trusted.

If the dipstick is to break off and end up between the primary reduction gears, it'll make a mess. Moreover, the dipstick is terribly inaccurate; if you were to fill the engine properly using the sight glass and then check the oil with the dipstick, you'd see what I mean.

My concern is that not all bikes have a sight glass. Funny thing is my old TMEC 200 not only does not have a sight glass, but it requires a liter of oil, not a quart!? I am fairly certain the current model years' TMEC 200's still require a liter.

Anywhere between the upper and lower lines. If the bike is new, tend to go toward the upper line. Why? Others will chime in but I had heard that the bike will use oil during break-in as things seat and you don't want it to be low.
