Any CG clone engine failures?
Just curious about how many failures of CG clone engines people have experienced. There are millions of them out there, made by many manufacturers, but there seem to be very few failures. If you're had one fail, post the details here.

I think you'll get more of this answer Mudflap.
I've had 5 of these now, beat the snot out of all of them and not a single problem other than the disintegrating rubber intake that I replaced with a solid aluminum piece....and that was on a 10 year old unit. No issues in the main motor parts though. Bullet proof.

I lost a motor with a broken connecting rod. I think it may have been from the abuse of submerging the engine in a big puddle. The motor ran after the event, but seemed a bit off and never ran the same after flooding the crank case with water. I'm thinking the connecting rod may have been stressed or cracked during the hydro lock, and broke a few months after idk....just a hunch

I bought a wrecked bike with a CG230 that has a crack in the bottom end. No idea how that might have impacted the bottom end, but we literally unbolted the top end and bolted it on another bike (which was missing parts when purchased). It has excellent compression and doesn't smoke. I love that you can Frankenstein these motors, and they'll still run.

I've now heard of 2 instances where the crankshaft nut that holds the primary drive gear and centrifugal oil filter has come loose causing major damage. One had the spring washer installed backward from the factory. This would be easy to check while cleaning the oil filter as long as you have the socket wrench.

My Hawk was one of the bikes that spun the nut off the crankshaft letting go of the oil filter. I removed what was left of the oil filter flushed the engine, cleaned the oil screen and proceeded to ride the bike 400 miles home. After seversl more flushes and oil changes the screen no longer shows any shrapnel and runs like nothing ever happened. BTW the total cost of repair was around $20 for a new centrifigul oil filter.
