ideas for a different tail light?
so... after 900 miles I have managed to break my second tail light/license plate bracket... anyone have any Ideas for a better setup than what the old roketas and GY200s in general had? I can't keep replacing them.... its been one a month.... I'm not really abusing the bike.... (aside from long stretçhes of full throttle high rpm) theres a few dirt roads I like to take and they have been the bane of my tail lights existance..... it seems bad to have that much weight/ leverage that far behind the last mount bolt....

and just so you understand what I am talking about, here's a pic.... the last bolt that holds the whole black part on is just in front of where the bracket seperated....

I'm sure you can find an LED tail light, with license bracket, for sale on eBay.

I got rid of the entire lower fender assembly, and fabricated a steel frame that bolts to the subframe. It holds an LED tail light and the license plate. Hasn't broken yet. I've done the same thing on two bikes.
The tail light was just a generic unit on eBay. I (carefully) drilled out the mounting holes and replaced the stock screws with larger diameter stainless socket head cap screws for strength and rust prevention.

You can sorta see it here. Beware of the smoked LED tail lights on eBay. I want mine nice and bright.

Crazy volume. Something near 3 US gallons.

DD, those look cool on a sport bike, but I want a tail light that is separate from my turn signals for increased visibility. Some of those combo turn signal / tail light units are hard to distinguish. I'd rather have my turn signals around 10" to 12" apart.

I picked up an XR200R tank for cheap, and I'll eventually find a cheap seat to match. I'm going to try and mount them on another bike I'm building, to see if they'll look right. That'll get me near three gallons on that bike also.

i look forward to seeing how you do the xr stuff... i looked into the xr tanks, but i dont see a mount on the front of them like the china bikes. i believe they slip fit over rubber pucks protruding from the frame, and bolt down on the back correct? that seems to be hondas preferred method.... |

You're right. I intend to weld on whatever I need to so it'll fit. It's the angle of the backbone that could be trouble.
