McCrap gas
What is up with this fuel? I noticed fuel running out of the bowl overflow hose when I was running the Chonda. Pulled the bowl off the carb and it looked like little balls of rubber cement in the bottom of the carb. Just rebuilt the carb a couple of months ago. What gives?

I am not sure that I am an expert voice as to what those little balls may be, but if you suspect your gas then you could likely benefit from finding the nearest ethanol free pump near you.
I have been running nothing but ethanol free premium (it is typically only premium that is ethanol free) since I found out there was somewhere near me within reasonable driving distance, and my bikes have loved me all the more for it. They run noticeably better when I feed them what they want. Don't know a ton about Missouri, or how close buffalo is to anything else or how big it is, but you have one down at Signal food store on 134 Us Hwy 54 E. Here is a list of all the other ethanol free stations reported in Missouri: http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=MO If that is not too far for you, or another pump in a neighboring city is easier for you to get to, even if it takes 15 minutes out of your gas adventure, it is WELLLLLLL worth it, even if you were not expecting bad gas a a culprit. Motorcycles do not like Ethanol. Period. As I said I am not expert on what the little balls could be in there, but running ethanol free certainly will not hurt anything, and I would not be surprised to see it improve your situation if you suspect you have bad gas. |

Egads! Even if you don't switch to ethanol free gas, I still suggest you try getting fuel from another location.

Are you using the stock fuel hose? If so, I recommend that you upgrade.

I found a station here in Yuma (thanks for the link, Hailing!) which is a Love's truck stop/gas station who only seem to sell 100 and 110 octane ethanol-free racing fuel for those visiting the sand dunes. Is this high-octane gas okay for one of these Chinabikes, or will they spontaneously combust with too much goodness?!
I doubt I could afford the 100 or 110 octane regularly, but I would like to try it out of curiousity...

I was hoping to hear some "bad" news--I called the station and they said they charge $7.50/gallon for either 100 or 110!! Kind of defeats the point of riding a $1k bike as a commuter

I have 2 XR100's at the airport. They are Roger's and he asked me to store them.... a long time ago....
At any rate I use them for buzzing around the airport and irritating people ;-) I run them on 100 octane aviation gas, because that's what is there and they run fiine. I doubt they have more compression than a Chinabike. I've seen plenty of ancient Honda CT's and similar running on Avgas. The issue would be Avgas is LEADED and CB's nowadays have catalysts which would clog. The nice thing about Avgas is no alcohol contamination, and it is VERY stable. You can let it sit for a year and it will be just fine.

That would be more realistic for commuting--paying extra but still getting 50 mpg or so, but $7.50? I might as well move to Europe!!
I wonder if I mixed a tank of gas every so often, but it would still mix with E10 gasoline, so defeats the purpose.

Try a marina. That is where I would get it in GA. It was 91 or 93. About $4/gallon.

Man! That is Crazy, I know there is somewhere to get AvGas around here to, but the stuff at my pump is 88-91 and is pretty much the same price as normal premium, within a few cents any given day, so it only makes sense for me to run it!
