Unfortunately, that means the rest of the engine hasn't been getting oil either, and you probably have more problems than just noisy valves.

Meh, it will probably be fine. Most of the engine is also splash oiled so it will likely be ok. The valvetrain would be the thing that suffered the most. Worst case, it needs a top end, and those are fairly cheap.
