Pop rivet brackets to aftermarket aluminum muffler?

I recently bought a set of saddlebags that I would like to use on my TBR7. I have a similar exhaust (CRF 230 type)to what most people replace the stock exhaust with. The muffler has no heat shield whatsoever, and I will have to figure something out. I am torn between using large hose clamps, or pop riveting brackets for a heat shield directly onto the muffler. I have a good bit of the exhaust wrap on hand, but I don't think it would offer enough protection for a bag contacting it constantly. Do you think pop riveting,or using hose clamps would be best ? Do you think that a couple wraps of the exhaust wrap would protect a cloth bag, with a plastic, or kinda rubbery coating. I appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks
