Different kind of UDF last night. I went to my first Cyclegear Bike Night in years yesterday. I've always gone to the one in Schaumburg, IL in the past, but went to one in Bolingbrook because I was invited. It was effing packed. Buddy Casey's Ural was there but he was at the other end of the whack of bikes. Casey asked me to come down. He lives in Bolingbrook. It's an hour plus ride for me.
Back to the UDF. As I'm backing into the only spot big enough to fit Arpok, I can hear someone shout, "It has reverse". There's about a dozen people asking rapid fire questions. They disperse after about 5 minutes, then a middle aged couple with two teenage boys come up to me. The Dad points to the Ukraine flag on my fairing and asks, in an eastern European accent, if I know how to say what's printed in Russian on the Ukraine flag. I tell him that I only know the translation, which is 'Fuck Putin'. He smiled and said, "Yes" Then asked me if I actually knew anything about Ukraine and I told him about my three nieces from Kyiv that were adopted in the early nineties. His eyes got wide and said he and his wife were part of that group of kids and then Mom and Dad both hugged me. That kind of took me by surprise. Before they left, Dad taught me how to say 'Fuck Putin' in Russian. Mom tells me that even though my bike is Russian, it's very nice.
