Hawk 250 shift linkage exploded view?

Hey guys, bought a brand new Hawk 250 secondhand from someone. The shift linkage isn't engaging the detent for proper shifting.
We thought we had fixed it, but I took it down the road and it just missed the detent again.
But the shifter tab isn't actually engaging the detent, which i call the little star. Everything is tight, and looks exactly as it should relative to that video.
You can also see the PVC spacer I made next to the shift lever in attempt to pull the shift tab closer to the detent.
It IS ENGAGING in the video, but again when riding, it just falls back off and grazes the detent/star gear.
