Some reason I dreaded putting the fork guards on, and it was a bi*ch too. The brake cable was just so stiff but I got got it to go, though I wasn't able to use the lock washers because I couldn't get the screw to grab for the life of me. I just thread locked it good and tightened it without the locking washers. The speedo side was PIA because there was no slack for the cable. I too thought of trimming my right fork guard but then just came to the conclusion that the speedo cable is just thick because of the outer rubber shielding, the wires inside are a lot more flexible. That gave me some peace of mind and I did kind of loop shown below. Everything seemed to have JUST enough slack, hopefully I have no issues, if so I will definitely be calling for a replacement.
