I removed my gear shifter and cut off the back so I would not rest my heel on it. Also when you reinstall it you could go up a spline or two to get more clearance for your boot.
Me, I dont have any issue at all with my foot rest. I actually like the shifter. I wish it was lengthen a bit. My boot heel never touches the exhaust pipe.
