Shaft to chain conversion.

My shaft drive lifan type engines atv, has some issues with the rear axle internals.
The ATV was purchased in parts and the rear axle was assembled so i fitted it to the frame on getting the engine running and charging.

I first noticed a problem when moving the bike it locked solid, it feels like there is a toth on the crown wheel or pinion missing or warn/broken. there is a lot of slack somewhere back there..
Any exploded drawings or photos on the components or advice please

Ir what of the feasability of making up a chain and sprocket conversion, ?? Has any one done this. advice please one any of the above anyone... john.
