How low pressure with no rim locks?

I now carry a pump with me and was wondering just how low I can deflate the tires to when I make it to the trails?

Without a rim lock, I would guess no lower than 14psi? Has anyone done a significant amount of trail riding any lower than that without problems?

Also, what are you inflating to for on pavement? I'm currently running them between 20 and 22psi.
